Gerald D. Boyd

Gerald Boyd is a freelance writer based in Sonoma County who specializes in wine and spirits, fine food, and travel. He writes a monthly column for Wine Review Online. An avid wine collector since the 1950s, Gerald began writing about wine in 1971. In 1979, Gerald joined The Wine Spectator as managing editor and one year later was promoted to editor. In 1983, he returned to freelance writing, a career he has followed since with a one-year break to serve as editor of Wine & Spirits Buying Guide. Gerald served as the staff wine and spirits writer for the San Francisco Chronicle for nine years and continues to write for the weekly wine section. His other regular writing credits include Decanter, The Wine News, Winestate of Australia and trade magazines. Gerald is presently chief judge at the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition and director of the Commercial Wine Department, San Francisco Bay Wine Competition.
