Michael
Franz is a wine writer, educator and consultant. He has served
as wine columnist for The Washington Post since 1994, and is the
wine writer for the Post’s on-line service, washingtonpost.com.
In addition to feature stories and his bi-weekly columns in the
Post's print edition, Michael hosts “The Grapevine,”
a live interactive show on washingtonpost.com's "Live Online"
on alternate Wednesdays at noon.
Michael contributes
articles to national and international magazines such as Food
and Wine, Santé, Market Watch, Appellation, Where, and
Spain Gourmetour, and conducts tastings and seminars for consumers
and members of the wine trade across the United States. He has
conducted more than 650 site visits and tastings at wineries across
Western and Eastern Europe, South America, the United States,
Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
Michael judges
at national and international wine competitions. He writes about
all the world's fine wines, and is an avid student of viticulture
and enology as well as the commercial aspects of the international
wine trade.
